More about the Oak Internal Doors Collection

Oak is a beautiful material that brings warmth and nature to your home. The natural wood grain makes each oak door unique. Our selection of pre-finished engineered oak doors includes a number of stylish flush, panelled and glazed doors ready to hang in your home, and we also have a selection of unfinished doors that you can work with on-site.

Oak Interior Doors

We have internal oak doors in both metric and imperial sizes, and some FD30-rated fire doors to choose from as well. We have doors to suit all tastes and budgets. Choose from flush, glazed, and fire doors, with matching glazed options for rooms where you would like a brighter and lighter feel.

Available as Unfinished Doors or Ready To Hang

If you want an oak internal door that is ready to hang when it arrives, we stock a variety of pre-finished engineered oak doors with a high-quality finish that will look beautiful and last years. A pre-finished door provides a factory finish that's second to none.

But if you’d rather have the flexibility of a door you can finish yourself, we have plenty of unfinished door options too.

If you’re looking to make life really easy, why not try our interior doorsets which make installation a breeze!

Designs for All Homes

We have oak internal doors in a range of classic door styles. From traditional country cottage style internal doors to the timeless, minimalist flexibility of a shaker-style interior door, we have options to suit any design style. Our flush and oak panel doors are both really popular. There's something for you whether you're looking for a traditional or contemporary internal door. Oak fits neatly into most interior design styles, which adds to its charm.

Solid oak and solid core oak veneer interior doors

We offer both solid oak and solid core internal oak veneer doors so that you can bring the beauty of oak woodgrain to your home regardless of your budget.

Our solid oak doors are thick, and sturdy and are excellent insulators against sound and heat loss. They are also stunning additions to your home, bringing a sense of character and quality.

However, if your budget won’t stretch to solid wood, we also offer a number of different solid-core oak doors as well.

With an engineered solid core you get all the practical benefits of solid wood. A robust, heavyweight door provides impressive insulation. A high-quality oak veneer means they look great too.

Door Handles and Furniture available

Our doors are supplied ready to hang, but without hardware, we supply hardware separately. We know that the majority of our customers prefer to choose their own hardware, to enjoy a consistent finish from room to room. By not supplying basic hardware, we are able to keep the prices of the doors as low as possible.

Internal oak fire doors

Our FD30 fire doors are made to comply with UK building regulations and are suitable for use in habitable upstairs rooms, stairwells, and other areas where a fire-rated door may be required. Some of our glazed doors are offered in FD30 options, and we always use tough safety glass. Be sure to check the description before buying, to get the right door thickness, size and rating.

Sizes to Fit Any Opening

All our oak doors are available to purchase in all standard door sizes.

The solid wood lipping on our engineered solid core oak doors means you can also trim down up 35mm off each door to help it fit into awkward doorframes.

Alternatively, if you need an internal door in a particularly unusual size, we are also able to offer bespoke door sizes in some of our range. For larger openings, we also offer a range of French doors and sidelights.

If you would like to know about ordering a bespoke internal door, please do not hesitate to contact us. We offer free delivery (over £750) as standard and rapid shipping on stock sizes. There is a longer lead time on bespoke doors.

Questions about Oak Internal Doors

What is the durability of oak internal doors?

Oak internal doors are renowned for their exceptional durability. Oak is a hard, dense wood that can withstand daily wear and tear effectively, maintaining its robustness and beauty over many years. It is highly resistant to warping and shrinking, ensuring the longevity of the door. Its natural grain also provides strength, which makes it less likely to split or crack compared to softer woods.

However, like all wood products, the life span of an oak internal door also depends on how well it is maintained. Regular cleaning and occasional treatment with suitable products can enhance its durability and ensure it remains in good condition for a longer period.

Do oak internal doors require special maintenance?

Oak internal doors do not require special maintenance, but following some general guidelines can help maintain their beauty and durability for a long time.

  • Cleaning: Regular cleaning with a soft, dry cloth can help remove dust and prevent build-up. For deeper cleaning, use a damp cloth and a mild, non-abrasive cleaner. Always ensure to dry the door after cleaning to prevent moisture damage.
  • Avoiding Moisture and Humidity: Oak, like any other wood, can potentially warp or swell if exposed to excessive moisture. Thus, it's crucial to avoid letting the door get wet. In high humidity areas, using a dehumidifier can help protect your door.
  • Treatment: If your oak door is not pre-finished, you may need to treat it with a suitable finish. This not only enhances the natural beauty of the oak but also provides a protective layer against moisture and UV light. Even if the door is pre-finished, you might consider reapplying a finish every few years, depending on the door's exposure to sunlight and heavy usage.
  • Avoiding Direct Sunlight: While oak is robust, prolonged exposure to direct sunlight can cause the wood to fade and dry out. Using blinds or curtains during peak sunlight hours can help prevent this.
  • Regular Inspections: Regularly inspect your oak door for signs of damage or wear. Early detection of issues like cracks or warping can help you address them before they become significant problems.

How do I install an oak internal door?

Installing an oak internal door can be a moderately challenging task. However, if you're comfortable with DIY projects, you can certainly accomplish this yourself. Here are general steps to guide you through the process:

Materials Required:

  • Oak internal door
  • Screwdriver
  • Drill
  • Hinges (usually 3 for doors over 2040mm height)
  • Screws
  • Tape Measure
  • Door handle and latch mechanism
  • Carpenter's level
  • Plane (if needed)
  • Wood chisel
  • Pencil for marking

Procedure:

  • Measurement: Measure the opening for your new door carefully. It's essential that your new door fits into the frame correctly. Typically, you would leave a 2mm gap on the sides and top and a 6-8mm gap on the bottom for clearance.
  • Preparation: If the door needs to be trimmed to fit, mark the areas to be trimmed. Ensure the door remains square. A plane can be used for minor adjustments. Note that if a lot of material needs to be removed, it should be equally from both sides and not more than the manufacturer's recommendation.
  • Hinge Position: Decide where the hinges will be fixed. Normally, the top hinge is 150-200mm from the top edge, and the bottom hinge is 200-250mm from the bottom. The middle hinge (if used) would be in the center. Mark the position of the hinges on the door edge and the door frame.
  • Cutting Hinge Recesses: Using a sharp chisel, carefully cut the recesses for the hinges in the door edge and the frame. The recess should be deep enough so that when the hinge is placed into it, the hinge sits flush with the wood.
  • Attach Hinges to Door: Screw the hinges into the recesses you've created in the door edge, ensuring they are flush and level.
  • Hang the Door: With the help of another person, position the door in the frame and screw the hinges into the recesses in the frame.
  • Add Door Hardware: Now, mark the position of the latch and handle. You will need to drill holes for these, and then chisel out a recess for the latch plate so it can sit flush with the edge of the door. Once done, you can attach your door handle and latch mechanism.
