Questions about Mexicano Oak Internal Doors

What is a Mexicano door?

A Mexicano door, also known as a 'Mexicana', is a particular style of internal door characterized by its simple, rustic design. The design is influenced by traditional Mexican architecture, hence the name. The design usually consists of five vertical panels or sections. These doors are often made from solid wood, such as oak or pine, which can be stained or painted to suit a range of interior decor styles. However, variations of the original solid door now exist, with glazing options and a variety of colours now available.

Mexicano doors are popular for their versatility. They can fit in with both traditional and contemporary styles due to their clean lines and timeless design. They are also known for their robust and durable construction, which can add a touch of quality to a home.

What is the difference between Mexicano and Belize doors?

The Belize door bears a resemblance to the Mexicano door in terms of overall design, but there are key distinctions that set them apart. One significant difference is the Belize door's narrower grooves and lippings. These grooves, which are the indented lines that give the door its panel-like appearance, are smaller on the Belize door compared to the Mexicano style. This provides a slightly more subtle and modern design appearance. The lippings, or the thin strips of wood around the door's edges, are also smaller on the Belize door. These require less material and can be simpler to produce.

How thick is a Mexicano door?

Mexicano oak doors are manufactured in 3 thicknesses: 35mm, 40mm and 44mm. The 35mm thick doors are the standard thickness for internal doors. At the other end of the scale, 44mm thick doors represent fire doors, which are FD30 rated - preventing the spread of smoke and fire for up to 30 minutes.
